Years in Business: 22 years

Majestic View Park is named for Majestic View Avenue (now Garrison Street) and the original Majestic View subdivision, now Huntington Heights. The Majestic View area used to be near the hub of the Town of Oberon, hence why the main lake is called Oberon Lake. The area was broken into properties that later made up the Majestic View Park sold to the City of Arvada in the late 20th century.

In 2001, the City of Arvada renovated one of the properties from the 1980’s floorplan of the previously “Harder house” to become the Nature Center facility. June 1, 2002 Majestic View Nature Center began offering programs starting with the Annual Arvada Trails Day event.

Over the years, Majestic View and City of Arvada has created a 25,000 square foot demonstration garden with native and regionally appropriate plants, an outdoor classroom, new displays, and continual improvements to the park and trails. Connected to the Nature Center is 80 acres of wetlands and prairies, wildlife resting areas, and almost 2 miles of paved and gravel trails. Since the Nature Center opened, it’s served over 325,000 participants in programs and events.

How do you make it a point to put families first?
We strive to inspire people of all ages to explore, discover, and learn about our natural world. All of our educators are certified interpretive guides, which means they understand how to make programming age-appropriate and relevant, as well as how to make our programs a positive experience. We provide a variety of accommodations and strive to ensure safety for our participants.

What do you enjoy the most about having the Nature Center in our area?
The Nature Center is a wonderful place to connect with the wild side of Arvada. There’s tranquility as well as community, and the people that come to park often return and share new things they’ve learned from nature. The landscape is picturesque and easy to navigate with the trails, but the people and the things to do in the park are what make it the hidden gem of Arvada.

What’s next for the Nature Center?
The Nature Center is planning to expand with a new classroom adjacent to the existing building. The new classroom will be able to accommodate larger class sizes and allow for more programs even during inclement weather. Majestic View is also beginning wetland restoration work to remove invasive vegetation and increase resiliency in the emergent wetlands that is home to so many species.
