The Willow School
Face of Charter Schools
The Willow School, an A-rated, K-12 institution, combines a rigorous curriculum with well-rounded opportunities, emphasizing arts integration and a commitment to student wellness. Recognizing the growing importance of social-emotional development, the school has implemented robust support systems to help students balance their academic responsibilities while building resilience and self-awareness.
The pandemic’s challenges and the ongoing national youth mental health crisis have inspired The Willow School to significantly enhance its student support initiatives, particularly at the high school level. Recent state legislation banning cell phone use during instructional time has provided an opportunity for the school to promote healthier habits, encouraging students to disconnect from devices and focus on meaningful, in-person connections during the school day.
Understanding that policy alone cannot address the complexities of rising student stress and anxiety, Willow has adopted a holistic approach to student well-being. This includes harmonizing its academic rigor with a proactive focus on emotional and mental health. By fostering a supportive environment, the school empowers students to feel valued, thrive, and achieve personal growth.
Central to this effort is the establishment of a Wellness and Culture Center (WCC) on each of its three campuses. These centers provide a daily, comprehensive suite of services designed to address the unique needs of students and staff. Each WCC is staffed by a multidisciplinary team, including an assistant principal, a safety and culture coordinator, a student support services coordinator, a social worker, and a nurse. This team collaborates to support students’ academic, social, and emotional well-being, serving as a vital resource for addressing concerns, offering guidance, and connecting families to additional support.
“Our WCC teams work tirelessly to ensure every student feels safe, supported, and empowered to succeed,” says CEO Nicolette London. “By prioritizing restorative and trauma-informed practices, we address the root causes of stress and anxiety, creating a school culture that thrives on collaboration and care. Through partnerships with community organizations and the dedication of our staff, we uphold the highest standards for mental health support and campus safety.”
The Willow School is committed to creating an environment where every student can grow academically and personally, embodying its mission to foster well-rounded, resilient individuals prepared to excel in life.
